In order to explore various new VFX techniques such as utilizing alembic geometry caches, hand-keyed 3D animation, and houdini destruction sims, I decided to make a cartoonier version of the ending to the 2009 film "Drag me to hell" which I find insanely cheesy and comedic, so I really wanted to channel that aspect.
My design philosophy for this FX was something that could potentially be used as a fast travel cosmetic like Diablo 4s portals, rather than an attack. just a fun little cosmetic animation!
